Dr. Dean Malvick, U of MN Extension plant pathologist, will lead demonstrations and discussions about the soybean diseases sudden death syndrome (SDS) and on the corn disease tar spot in the crop diseases session. You will see a SDS field study that includes different seed treatments and different levels of varietal resistance to determine how they influence development of SDS. Bruce Potter, Extension IPM specialist, will give an update on corn rootworm management options. Bring your questions for an interactive discussion on soil insecticides, transgenic traits, including currently available pyramids of Bt traits, scouting, and the implications of Bt resistance and weather on the status of rootworm populations.
Dr. Bob Koch, Extension entomologist, will provide an update on the status of soybean aphid infestations in Minnesota, performance of some of the currently registered insecticides for soybean aphid control and insecticide resistance management. In addition, Bob will address the status of beneficial insects for the control of soybean aphids. We'll also have updates on soybean gall midge and hog-peanut leafminer activity in Minnesota crop fields this year.
Registration will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with the field tour starting promptly at 9:00. A light lunch will be served after the tour.
